THE IMPORTANCE OF MUSIC (as submitted to Planetary Magazine)

What would the world be without music? It is very hard to imagine because music is too important and too present everywhere. Every country has its own kind of music, which reflects the country's culture, its roots and its history. Brazilian music, for example, reflects the differences that there are in the country. In Bahia, a state in Brazil, we have Axé music, which is the African music together with the Brazilian.
Through music the world is happier; everyone can feel music and many lessons can be learned from it.
Music in school can prevent drop-outs by providing opportunities of success to some students who have difficulty at other subjects. For some students, music can even make school tolerable.
Besides, there are other ways of listening to music. For example, downloading mp3 songs. One of the most famous program for that was Napster, which distributed music without paying the copyrights to the artist. We are against it because it is the musician's work and they should be paid for it.
