IDEALS IN LIFE (as submitted to Planetary Magazine)

We, Krystal and Brenda, both are 2nd grade students at Colegio Andrews, a traditional private school in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
Brenda speaks English well because she lived in the USA for three years, and Krystal because she finished her English course at Brasas.
We both have similar interests, like our passion for the ocean and its magnificent creatures. We also are addicted to videogames and chocolate.
Our goal, at the moment, is to get into a good University so that , in the future, we´ll follow a promising career and have a steady standard of living. Our favourite school subjects are Chemistry and History, although they are not part of our choices for University.
Brenda wants to study marine biology because of her fascination for the ocean beings. Krystal is quite different, she wants to study medicine so she becomes a famous plastic surgeon and makes a lot of money out of face lifts.
Nowadays the current situation of these careers in the labour market isn’t very good. Marine biology isn’t well acknowledged in Brazil in spite of enviromental projects. As for medicine, even though it requires a lot of dedication and long nights of work and study, Brazilian doctors are not well paid.
But Brenda and Krystal will not give up their dreams. Brenda wants to travel to other countries, like Australia and Nauru (!), and work on projects to protect endangered ocean species. Krystal wants to go to Australia too, she hopes to have her own office and take care of surfers that were attacked by sharks, and people that have beauty problems.
