Our future work (as submitted to Planetary Magazine)

Both of us study at a private school, Andrews, one of the best of Rio de Janeiro. Maths is our favourite subject. We study English at English Courses and at school. Iago studies French at Alliance Française. We also like doing sports, going to the cinema, to the beach, and Ricardo likes to play chess.
Iago wants to graduate in Communication while Ricardo wants to do Computer Engineering and we both would like to do them in PUC, the best private university in the city. We have chosen these careers because they pay very well and we like these areas, which are promising, since they are in expansion in Brazil. Iago thinks his job will need a lot of his creativity, something he has. Ricardo likes so much computers that he is obsessed with doing Computer Engineering or, at least, System Analysis, like his parents.
It will be fun, but hard at the same time. Maybe it will be stressful, as many jobs. We are really optimistic about our future, because if you have a PUC degree, it is easier to get a good job, which is difficult in the current situation of Brazil. We intend to do some training, then we will find a very good job in fine companies. Although the Brazilian people are very poor, most of them have and watch television daily. So, the media in Brazil is very powerful and this labour market is becoming very competitive and promising. The computer area is growing very fast in Brazil, because technology advances through commerce, services, industry, and agriculture. The future of technology is in this area. We will be successful!

Highestwire polls:

How would you rate the emergency response efforts for Hurricane Katrina?

Options include:

A five; we're all doing all we can do

A four; People have really come together. Even if the rescue efforts were hampered a little, everyone is chipping in to help

A One; What else could they have done, given the conditions of the city?

A three; They tried hard, but factors outside of their control (looters, fires, chaos) slowed them down

A two; It was about what I expected would happen

A zero; why did President Bush wait so long to send troops? Why was there so much miscommunication among government officials?

Emergency Response? What emergency response? Government officials up through Bush should all be fired!

I'm just glad I wasn't there

If people had heeded the evacuation orders, everything would have been fine
