My name is Carolina and my friend’s name is Anna Beatriz, we are writing this text to tell you about how we feel about communication. I am 16 and Anna is 15 years old, we both live in Rio, Jd Botânico and Copacabana. We both like going to the beach, parties and cinema, we love chocolate and pink.
Communication for us is when people can tell what they want to other people, by acting, speaking, or writing. For example, when you’re talking to someone face to face is communication, when you write a letter you’re making communication, when you kiss someone you’re making communication too.
The means of communication we use the most are face to face, telephone, internet(ICQ, msn, orkut, e-mail), but people still write letters a lot too because some of them think it’s safer to send a letter than an e-mail, the e-mail may not get to the person you want in the time you want. Internet is very practical but it’s also really expensive and not everyone is that rich. The reality in Brazil is that the most people aren´t rich enough to keep a computer and the internet, keeping some people away from the technological advance.
We think in the future with all the technological improvements, the internet will be useful for more things than it’s now. People will do everything via internet, business deals, buy clothes, food, and etc. There will be other means of communication, telephones that you can see the person who you’re talking with and the television will be 3D. We don’t buy things via internet now because our parents don’t think it’s safe to give your card number on internet. It can be cloned.
We consider ourselves very communicative, we meet lots of people every weekend and become their friends, we have friends by internet and friends out of Rio de Janeiro that we keep in touch by telephone. In the future, we hope to be still that communicative , because for you to get a job, being communicative is something that really matters. To be a great communicator, you can’t be shy.

How would you rate the emergency response efforts for Hurricane Katrina?

Options include:

A five; we're all doing all we can do

A four; People have really come together. Even if the rescue efforts were hampered a little, everyone is chipping in to help

A One; What else could they have done, given the conditions of the city?

A three; They tried hard, but factors outside of their control (looters, fires, chaos) slowed them down

A two; It was about what I expected would happen

A zero; why did President Bush wait so long to send troops? Why was there so much miscommunication among government officials?

Emergency Response? What emergency response? Government officials up through Bush should all be fired!

I'm just glad I wasn't there

If people had heeded the evacuation orders, everything would have been fine
